To the Only Wise God

Rev. Lex DeLong

Anyone who has built a fence or a heavy cedar arbor knows you must dig past the shifting topsoil and anchor below the frost line. Otherwise, the winter freeze will heave the structure apart.

We often build our lives the same way—anchoring in the topsoil of careers, willpower, or human wisdom. When the freezes of life hit, we wobble.

Concluding our journey through Romans this Sunday, Paul’s grand doxology (16:25-27) reminds us of a profound truth: You cannot establish yourself. Only God is able.

He anchors us in the unveiled mystery of the gospel—not just so we hold static theological beliefs, but to bring about the "obedience of faith." True faith isn't passive. Trusting Christ's finished work naturally moves our feet in joyful submission.

Join us at Washington Baptist Church this week to explore what it means to be established by grace, to the glory of the only wise God.
